Home Styling in Spring

It’s been a slow start this year but it’s beginning to feel like Spring is finally here. This time of year can also reinvigorate potential buyers to start house hunting, so why not style your house with some of our Springspiration ideas:

1) Focus on alfresco/outdoor areas

After a long and wet winter the garden can look messy. Clean out your backyard by raking up fallen leaves and removing rubbish.

Don’t underestimate the difference a good pressure clean can make to your outdoor spaces. Get rid of the winter moss build up and freshen up your area in time for summer.

Add outdoor furniture, as potential buyers like to envisage the use of outdoor spaces, and don’t forget to neaten up your porch and patio areas.

2) Spring clean

It’s common sense to clean before a home open, however, don’t forget to pay attention to smaller details:

  • Wash windows
  • Dust blinds
  • Clean curtains
  • Dust skirting boards
  • Clean appliances
  • Clean and arrange contents of your closets and cupboards

3) Let in fresh air

Make the most of the spring sunlight and pull back curtains and blinds. Opening some doors and windows can remove the need for air fresheners and rid the house of any remaining winter stuffiness, as well as adding another dimension to some of the rooms.

4) Add splashes of colour

Adding colour to a room can feel like a breath of fresh air!

Colour can easily transform a room whether it be with paint, colourful throws, cushions or artwork.

If you are going to paint, try sticking to one feature wall that compliments the accessories and colour palette in your home.

5. Fresh Flowers

An inexpensive way to bring colour and interest into your home is with fresh flowers. They are everywhere at this time of year, are inexpensive and can be changed frequently.

You could also bring the outdoors inside with an indoor plant – you’ll be surprised at the difference this can make to your home.

6. De-clutter

Spring is a time to freshen up your home either by de-cluttering or bringing in a new style. Go through each room, and organise your items into 3 piles:– one to keep, one to donate and one to throw away.

A useful tool when de-cluttering is to remember: if you haven’t used it in the last 12 months, you probably won’t use it again.

As the weather warms up try your hand at some DIY projects.

Happy styling!
